Your final grade for this course is figured out mathemathically. Add up your score on all assignments, speeches and tests and divide that by the total possible points you could have earned.

Total possible points: 570. Speeches were 100 each, group speech was 20, tests were 50 each. Missing more than 3 classes without a documented excused resulted in you losing half a letter grade (refer to your syllabus).

Study Guide for Test 2

Test 2 will be given on April 3rd 2009 for SPE 130-06 (MWF at 11:30) and on April 7th for SPE 130-02 and 03 (9:35 and 12:45 respectively)

“I don’t know what to do my speech on!” I hear this a lot. So here are a list of suggestions (some of which have been done as informational speeches). Remember: consider your audience, the occasion and yourself! Don’t forget, this is informational: facts, facts, facts!

Sample topics:

George Washington, Darwin, Paris, Brittany (or any famous/historical person)
Art, poetry (how to critique, how to do)
Terra Cotta Architecture
stem cell research (what is it)
Running in marathons
Heatworm (or any disease in animals)
diabetes, cancer, MS (or any disease in humans)
wedding practices in different countries
Martial arts, softball, soccer, hockey (or any sport–how to style or on the history of, or information on college spots
Journalism (types of)
Sudan, Australia, any other country of interest (where to travel, what to see, give a tour, or information on the culture of the country)

Next week we’ll talk about this assignment and you’ll have two full class periods to work on it. However what you’re learning in the library sessions this week will help you with this assignment as well as your informational and persuasive speeches.

I fully expect you to use what you’re being taught, to search for WORTHWHILE information, to address your problem, provide information and persuade your audience. I will grade you based on teh quality of your information.
